An original 18th-century botanical engraving from John Hill’s Eden, or a Compleat Body of Gardening, first published in London in 1757. The work is notable for helping introduce the newly developed Linnaean system of plant classification to an English gardening audience.

John Hill (c. 1714–1775) was a remarkably versatile and controversial figure, an apothecary, botanist, gardener, writer, and medical practitioner. Despite his unconventional career, his botanical publications are distinguished by their elegant and finely detailed illustrations.

These engravings exemplify the quality of 18th-century botanical printmaking and remain highly desirable for collectors of botanical art, natural history, and antique works on paper.
