About Us

Founded in 1984, the gallery originally operated as Washington Square Gallery, earning a reputation as one of Philadelphia's premier sources for antique maps, prints, historical documents, and fine art. Over the years, the gallery occupied several locations throughout Philadelphia, most recently at 221 Chestnut Street in the heart of Old City.

In 2026, the gallery entered a new chapter when it was acquired by my wife, Claire, and me. With new ownership came a new name, JCE Gallery, inspired by the initials of our family: Justin, Claire, and our daughter, Emma. While the gallery has evolved, our commitment remains unchanged. We continue to offer the same carefully curated selection of exceptional antique prints, maps, historical documents, and contemporary artwork that collectors have trusted for more than four decades.

As a lifelong Philadelphian, I take great pride in continuing the city's rich tradition of preserving and sharing history through art. My passion for history and collecting led me to earn a Bachelor of Arts in History followed by a Master of Arts in Museum Studies. That academic background, combined with the experience of working in the antique print and historical document trade, allows me to carefully research, authenticate, and present each piece with the historical context it deserves.

Every item we offer has a story to tell. Whether it is an eighteenth-century map, a nineteenth-century lithograph, a rare historical document, or a contemporary work of art, we believe collecting should be as rewarding intellectually as it is visually. Our goal is to help collectors, decorators, institutions, and first-time buyers discover pieces that inspire curiosity, preserve history, and bring lasting beauty to their homes and collections.
