Robert Sanders (1727–1783) was a Scottish hack writer based in London, best known for producing compilations, travel guides, and historical works under the pseudonym Nathaniel Spencer.
This substantial work provides a comprehensive guide to “whatever is curious and entertaining” throughout the several counties of England and Wales, as well as the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, and other islands adjoining and dependent upon the Crown of Great Britain. Combining descriptions of towns, cities, landscapes, antiquities, and notable sites, the work offers a fascinating portrait of 18th-century Britain and reflects the growing popularity of travel literature during the period.
