Rigobert Bonne was the Royal Hydrographer of France, and his primary interest was in marine charts. However, his royal connections gave him access to the extensive cartographic resources available in Paris, allowing Bonne to compile maps that incorporated some of the most up-to-date geographical information of his time. This particular map highlights North America with its early European colonies, Native American tribe locations and the Great Lakes.
