Elizabeth Lentz Horter is often remembered as the wife of celebrated artist Earl Horter, but her own accomplishments as a painter, illustrator, teacher, and printmaker deserve equal recognition. While she devoted much of her career to supporting and promoting her husband’s work during challenging times, she also developed a distinctive artistic voice of her own.
Because Elizabeth Horter did little to publicize her artwork, many of her prints and paintings are difficult to date precisely. It is believed that after Earl Horter’s death, she began signing works with her maiden name, Elizabeth Lentz. Her finely executed compositions span a variety of mediums, including watercolor, etching, lithography, and woodblock printing, showcasing both technical skill and thoughtful design.
